!Detox! !Detox! !Detox! Everything that is happening in spring, everywhere you read about remedies that help you detox. That's all well and good, but what your body really craves at the end of winter are the vitamins and minerals that are in fresh spring green. The first herbs in spring, such as nettle, dandelion, chickweed, cleavers, ... are not only cleansing, they also nourish your body. If you are lucky, you can already find them fresh. But if you can't find them fresh yet, you can also get started with the dried version now. Make a regular cup of herbal tea, or a strong infusion, using more herbs and then letting it steep overnight.
Another vitamin and mineral bomb is apple cider vinegar . You often hear the tip to drink a glass of lukewarm water with lemon in the morning to get your metabolism going. Well, you can do the same with apple cider vinegar. It contains more vitamins and minerals, is fermented, has a smaller ecological footprint, โฆ Need more reasons to give it a try?ย ?
How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar as a Kick-Ass Morning Habit:
- 1 teaspoon Apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of real honey* (optional)
- lukewarm water
* By real honey I mean: no supermarket honey: this often contains more sugar than honey and is processed in such a way that it no longer has any nutritional value. Preferably choose honey from a local beekeeper, or otherwise organic cold-spun honey.
Take a glass and pour the apple cider vinegar in it and add the honey. Pour lukewarm water over it, stir briefly and drink. Try this for at least 2 weeks every morning, you will definitely notice a difference in your body!
And what happens when we combine those spring herbs and the apple cider vinegar:
BAM : ready for Spring ;)
Apple cider vinegar is a powerful ingredient for making an herbal extract because it works very well to draw out the minerals from your herbs.
Some examples of herbs you can use for this:
- the typical spring herbs: nettle, dandelion leaf and root, cleavers, etc. These are cleansing and contain many minerals.
- herbs that support your lymphatic system: cleavers, red clover and marigold are very good for this
- rosehip for extra vitamin C
- ...

! If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication, seek expert advice first to see if these herbs are suitable for you!
What do you need:
- A very clean glass jar.
- A mixture of dried herbs*, enough to fill your jar halfway.
- Enough apple cider vinegar to completely cover the herbs, preferably organic.
* You can certainly use freshly picked herbs, but rinse them briefly but thoroughly. Because they are still so close to the ground, there is a greater chance that they are dirty. Let them dry for at least a day. In general, dried herbs release their ingredients better in the vinegar and this way you bring as little moisture as possible into your vinegar, so that you do not affect the acidity, which ensures the preservation.
After 2 to 3 weeks you can filter the vinegar and store it in a clean bottle. If you have worked cleanly, this vinegar can be stored for at least 3 months.
You can use this herbal vinegar as I described above in the morning in a glass of lukewarm water, with or without a spoonful of honey. You will notice that the vinegar tastes less sour because of the herbs. And of course you can also use the vinegar over salads, in your soup or stew, etc. Try to use it daily in the spring!
Have fun making your herbal remedy! You can also add a new version to your herbal apothecary each season, adapted with herbs for the season.
